IUI-D
Intra-Uterine-Insemination
using Donor semen (IUI-D) can be used in case the husband has severely reduced semen quality and the couple does not want IVF or ICSI. We also use donor semen for insemination of single women or lesbian couples.
For insemination, the semen is prepared in the laboratory and
inserted into the uterus when the woman is ovulating. This procedure
increases the number of living sperm cells in the distal end of the
tube where fertilisation takes place. By planning the insemination
around the time of ovulation, the chance of conception increases.
Insemination
can also be used when the woman has ovulation problems or suffers from
endometriosis. Insemination is only possible if the woman has at least
one normal fallopian tube. Therefore, an examination of the patency of the tubes is mandatory before insemination treatment begins.
According to Danish law, physicians are only allowed to treat patients with anonymous donor semen. You can choose the donors height, weight and colour of the eyes and the hair. We purchase our donor semen from the
Nordic Cryobank in Copenhagen. The spermbank is responsible for the health and testing of the donors.
If
you bring references from your own general practitioner, the
insemination treatment is free of charge apart from the cost of
medicine and donor semen.
Foreign patients find a short list of
preliminary examinations we need for the introductory interview, in order to start treatment right after the interview.
