IUI-H
Intra-
Uterine-
Insemination
with the
Husband sperm (IUI-H) may be used if the sperm quality is slightly or moderately
reduced. If the sperm quality is severely reduced,
donor semen should be
used or IVF with
ICSI should be performed.
For insemination, the semen is prepared in the laboratory and inserted into the uterus when the woman is ovulating. This procedure increases the number of living sperm cells in the distal end of the tube where fertilisation takes place. By planning the insemination around the time of ovulation, the chance of conception increases.
Insemination
can also be used when the woman has ovulation problems (e.g. PCOS) or suffers from
endometriosis. Insemination is only possible if the woman has at least
one normal fallopian tube. Therefore, an examination of the patency of the tubes is mandatory before treatment start.
If
we cannot determine the cause of your childlessness (unexplained
infertility), you have a good chance of becoming pregnant by means of
insemination.
If
you have a Danish social security number (cpr. number) and bring references from your own general practitioner, the
insemination treatment is free of charge apart from the cost of
medicine.
Foreign patients find a short list of
preliminary examinations we need for the introductory interview, in order to start treatment right after the interview.
